The Valerie Zeitler Hautedoll Collections Fan Post

Hautedoll magazine (which later merged into Dolls magazine) had a few special editions where they teamed up with designer Valerie Zeitler to release special collections of SD sized clothes. The clothes were produced by Doll Heart and available exclusively through HauteDoll. Each collection was named and included a themed Peak's Woods SD size doll and a series of outfits, wigs, accessories, and shoes with in a theme. Items included a member and non-member price, although many sold out quite quickly. 

In this post, I intend to forever memorialize these amazing collections and magazine issues with photographs and other information from the magazine. Being that the magazine itself is no longer published, information about these outfits can be hard to find, so I hope this will help other enthusiasts identify and cherish these amazing outfits.

The Young Marie Antoinette Collection

Peak's Woods dolls Sky and Skiya were the featured models for this collection. These were both available at a member price of $740 each.

 Peak's Woods doll Goldie was featured in this Victorian-inspired collection. She was issued with a limited 'vampire bite marks' neckpiece and was limited to 40 pieces. Available to members for $740. Each item within the collection was also limited to 40.

New Doll Incoming

I ordered a new doll today!

Its Iplehouse Zenon! FID size. I ordered him in special real skin, with face up, extra hands, model body, and the dark priest set becuase, why not? I loved him when he was first released, and I'm so happy to finally resolve to order him :) I looked in the 'accessories' area of iplehouse in case something else caught my eye, and behold, a black FID fedora hat! OMG his slight smile, and a fedora, he can be like Mat Cauthon! He's one of my favorite characters from the Wheel of Time (which I'm on my second re-read of). The other thing I like about Zenon is just how different he will be next to Geralt (SartoriaJ Elf Dominic). Geralt is very stern, serious, pensive sort of look, and to me Zenon looks coy, amused, and a bit mischevious! I love variety in my dolls so I'm super excited to have the pairing. With the model body, he will also be slimmer and more boyish than the body builder look of Geralt (which is on the 'athletic' body, not even the huge 'zeus' body!) Anyway, buckled in for the long wait ahead.

Construction continues on the Tavern

I worked more on my fantasy medieval tavern. I knew I needed another wall, since all my dolls together don't fit in the tavern. I decided a wall with a door would be interesting. I could use it as exterior wall and as an interior wall. 

With a door, I knew I needed hinges. I searched only for a few 3D printer files for hinges. One set looked perfect for my door, but it was a "print in place" type hinge that I knew at small scale would wind up nonfunctional. I also found a printable 3 piece hinge. So I printed each at about 33% scale. They came out very small but I was able to assemble the 3 piece hinge using a straight pin for the center. I then purposely busted the larger print in place hinge to glue to either side of the small hinge.

I made the wall out of foam board and true to most my foam board projects, it began to warp. So I glued thick cardboard to the back. The door was a perfect fit and the hinges were working. Then I needed to make the wall freestanding and realized I should have attached a floor. So more foam board across the back....only to realize that when the doorframe is glued straight the door is hard to push closed. So lesson learned about the importance of keeping things squared.

someone on Facebook commented that this was like a Thai door. I didn't have a specific inspiration for the design....I looked at a few historical doors and door designs from Skyrim and just kind of glued stuff together. Afterwards I did think "geez I should have picked a design to replicate" but overall it fits with my sort of made up tavern anyway. 

Bonus! Even though I didn't measure the initial wall size at all, it fits perfectly at the back of the doll cabinet!

Adventure to the Forest

Rosali and Butterscotch went on the trail through the Lincoln National Forest campground.

I wish I had took some photos of her next to the horse, like leading the horse on the trail. Maybe next time. I also did not drag them up the hill at the nature reserve, but I did get some really nice pictures that would have been perfect with a doll. You'll just have to image they are there.

Tar-Meena

I airbrushed and detailed my JJ Doll Lab Hecena head. I didn't prime it first and the paint went on really well. My inspiration is a pink iguana which are beautiful and I think it translated well. Also the eyes I got from Heart of a Fairy are a perfect fit. She just looks sort of menacing...sinister...I like it! The only thing I don't like is her horrible fitting head cap. I'm going to try to glue feathers to her head like the "hair" option in Skyrim and maybe it will hide the gap. 

lol all my inspiration together. I didn't go quite as rich as the game or wildlife inspiration because I wanted to match the impldoll body which was blushed very very pink by impldoll. I may at some point paint on some scales on her body to tie it all together.

Creature Doll - Remembering my Favorite Doll Company

Creature Doll remains my favorite doll company of all time. It only lasted a little over a year. The Sculptor was Tae Wong Park, rumored to be a former scupltor for both Iplehouse and Souldoll. His first release was Priestess Eve

As soon as the preorder period for Eve ended, Guardian Phyllis was listed and I was smitten

I love this doll. Her engineering so amazing in her arms, legs, and hips. She has amazing accessories and optional hands, and overall look. Elf Lucia was next, followed by Mei. I didn't originally order an Elf Lucia but was able to buy her second hand later. I also didn't buy a Mei, but Mr. Park put a free Mei head in one of my future orders so I also have a Mei. Sadly I didn't save the offical photo of Lucia, but I did of Mei:

Next was Lillith, which originally did not appeal to me at the time but now I really like her outfit so much I'm debating trying to make it myself.

By September, Alicia was announced. I loved Alicia but I was low on funds for another doll. Its hard to buy many large fullsets in the same year, so the speed of the releases were a hinderance. Little did I know I would never have another chance.

The next month, Creature Doll released new promo photos of Lucia, Mei, and Lillith showing updated faceups which were much better. Also Lucia's eyes were made smaller, and brown skin was added as a basic option.

Taewong was just full of ideas and the very next month, released Angela as the 4th 'basic' doll (the others being Lucia, Mei, and Lillith). Her outfit is lovely but again I passed until it was too late.

This was followed by a 'renewal' of the Lillith and Mei faces, making them slimmer, a winter event for clothes, and a re-release of the Preistess Eve armor. The website also had a few swords and daggers that could be purchased separately. The final doll released in December 2017 was elf Karin, the 5th basic doll. Also released was new armor that could be added to any order.

March 2018, Creature Doll announced they were closing. Again, I was low on funds, and could not take advantage of the final sale. Here was the announcement from Mr. Park: Dear my customers, First of all, I would like to say that I am very sorry. I’m afraid that the journey of Creature Doll that started in December 2016 will end in February 2018. Since its inception, I have produced eight kinds of dolls from EVE to KARIN. Because of unmanageably poor sales performance, however, I’ve found that it’s no more possible to keep the company. I started this company just because I liked making dolls, and I wanted to make special ones, but I guess I failed to draw much attention. I was responsible for everything from production to shipping, and it was affecting my health. This is very upsetting, and I do feel upset even while I'm writing this. I can't really say now if I’ll be able to start making a doll again. Though I wanted to release more of new, unique dolls, I'm afraid I should stop here. But please know that I’ve been really happy that I could freely make the dolls as I wanted. Thank you so much for the attention and love you’ve been showing to Creature Doll. I especially want to express my sincere gratitude to those who purchased my products. Finally, I also express my thanks to those who’ve been encouraging me and supporting what I do and trying to promote Creature Doll. Sincerely, There was only a one week period to make final purchases. BUT! I have been closely watching for these dolls to come up second hand and in addition to my Phyllis, Lucia, and Mei, I am now the proud owner of a Lillith! She should be arriving on Saturday and will need a faceup straight away. I'm not sure if shes the 'renewal' head or the original. I think I will go for a Geisha-inspired faceup for her. I have never seen owner pictures of an Alisa but I would gladly buy her if I saw her, and a Karin as well. My last update is that in April 2022, a fellow Den of Angels member sent a message to Taewong and actually got a reply. Here is what he said: " Hello. Sorry for replying so late. Thank you for your interest in my doll. Unfortunately, reselling the doll seems to be difficult. I always feel sorry for those who like my dolls. The creaturedoll is not a very popular doll, so it is quite Running the company was difficult. Making a doll is physically quite difficult, so I It is true that my health has deteriorated a lot. (My health has improved a lot now.^_^) I also feel sorry for not being able to implement many designs in my head into reality. Once again, I apologize for the late reply, and I hope you are always happy and healthy."
